Product Development Manager – Polyurethane Rigid Foam

About the role

The position is based in Navi Mumbai and is responsible for leading product development of polyurethane (PU) rigid foam systems for BASF’s Appliance & Construction business in India. You will manage laboratory work, pilot‑plant operations and coordinate with customers, sales and technical teams to deliver innovative solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead R&D projects and pilot‑plant activities to develop and fine‑tune PU formulations and processing methods.
• Handle customer complaints, coordinate laboratory developments and ensure product quality.
• Plan daily production, allocate operators, and manage conflicts in plant bookings.
• Implement 5S, preventive maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives to increase productivity and reduce costs.
• Manage special projects (budget > 0.1 M EUR) including building, utilities and renovations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electromechanical or Polymer Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in plant and R&D operations, preferably in the rigid foam polymer industry.
• Strong knowledge of the PU value chain, formulation development, troubleshooting and foaming processes.
• Proven leadership ability to build, motivate and coach multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Polyurethane (PU) system and formulation expertise.
• Process development and optimization for rigid foam production.
• Foaming machine technology and post‑molding processes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CAD and EHS‑related IT systems.
• Fluent English communication (written and verbal).
