Product Developer – Functional Films & Adhesives

About the role

3M is seeking a Product Developer to lead functional film R&D, processing, and adhesive development within its Commercial Solutions segment. The role focuses on creating innovative film and adhesive solutions for branding and transportation applications.

Key responsibilities

• Lead product development for functional films, including extrudable, injection, calender, and solvent‑process technologies.
• Design and optimize adhesive formulations (permanent, removable, PSA) for low surface energy substrates.
• Utilize polymeric material science to improve film properties and sustainability.
• Conduct film testing for durability, exposure, and mechanical strength.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to launch products from concept to commercial production.

Required profile

• M.Tech or Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Material Science or related field.
• 8‑12 years of experience in product development, functional film R&D, and material science.
• Proven ability to work with raw material suppliers and contract manufacturers.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Film processing technologies: extrusion, injection molding, calendering, solvent coating.
• Adhesive technologies: permanent, removable, pressure‑sensitive adhesives.
• Polymeric material expertise and structure‑property relationships.
• Film additives for thin‑film formation and surface modification.
• Printing technologies: water‑based, solvent, eco‑solvent.
• Color science and shade/matting control.
