Principal/Associate Transport Modeller

About the role

Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced Principal/Associate Transport Modeller to lead strategic multimodal transport modelling projects across highway and public‑transport systems. The role combines technical leadership in PTV VISUM and SATURN with project management and mentorship of junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development, calibration, validation and forecasting of large‑scale highway and public‑transport models.
• Manage survey programmes, demand matrix creation and variable demand modelling processes.
• Analyse complex datasets using Python, Power BI, VB and integrate outputs with GIS platforms (ArcGIS, MapInfo, QGIS).
• Produce technical documentation such as validation reports, forecasting reports and demand matrix development reports.
• Mentor and train junior modellers, promote best practice and support business development activities.

Required profile

• 14‑18 years of transport modelling experience, including at least 3 years with PTV VISUM.
• Proven track record developing national highway and public‑transport models, including zoning updates and network enhancements.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and quality‑assurance capabilities.
• Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Understanding of UK/Ireland standards (DfT, UK TAG, TAF, TII PAG) and transport appraisal processes.
