Principal Transport Modeller

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Principal Transport Modeller to lead strategic multimodal transport modelling projects for public and private sector clients. The role involves developing, calibrating and delivering high‑quality highway and public‑transport models using tools such as PTV VISUM and SATURN, and supporting infrastructure design and policy decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of multimodal transport models, including highway and public‑transport networks.
• Manage full modelling project lifecycle: survey programmes, data processing, calibration, validation, demand matrix creation, forecasting and economic appraisal.
• Oversee Variable Demand Modelling processes and ensure compliance with industry guidance.
• Analyse large datasets and generate inputs using Python, Power BI, VB and other analytical tools.
• Integrate modelling outputs with GIS platforms (ArcGIS, MapInfo, QGIS) for spatial analysis and visual communication.
• Provide modelling support for Traffic Impact Assessments and transport infrastructure design.
• Produce technical documentation such as validation reports, forecasting reports and demand matrix development reports.
• Mentor junior modellers and promote best practice in methodology and data governance.

Required profile

• 12‑15 years of transport modelling experience, including at least 3 years with PTV VISUM.
• Proven expertise in highway and public‑transport model development, calibration, validation and scenario forecasting.
• Experience delivering national or regional transport models and managing zoning, network coding and demand matrix updates.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with experience in survey data analysis.
• Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder‑management skills.
