Principal Software Engineer

About the role

The Principal Software Engineer is the senior-most hands‑on technical leader for a bounded domain that typically spans 2–4 delivery teams. You will define the technical direction, govern the domain architecture, and enable teams to deliver secure, reliable, and cost‑effective solutions on AWS that align with business outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Set and communicate the technical vision and architectural standards for the domain.
• Ensure architectural coherence, reliability, security posture, and non‑functional requirements.
• Lead cross‑team architectural changes, platform adoption, and measurable improvements in performance, cost, and reliability.
• Evaluate third‑party services and platforms for security, cost, operations, and integration complexity.
• Mentor engineers and act as the go‑to expert for a set of core technologies.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a senior technical leader across multiple teams or services within a bounded domain.
• Strong polyglot background with the ability to select fit‑for‑purpose technologies.
• Experience modernising legacy systems to cloud‑native patterns on AWS.
• Solid understanding of systems analysis, design, QA, and integration methodologies.
• Familiarity with responsible AI practices and data‑privacy considerations.
