Principal Platform Engineer – High Availability & Disaster Recovery

About the role

As the Principal HA & DR Engineer, you will own the architectural strategy and technical execution for the platform's resilience, high availability, and disaster recovery lifecycle. You will design, build, and deliver technical solutions that support platform availability, resiliency, and disaster response.

Key responsibilities

• Drive the HA Strategy & Roadmap: own end‑to‑end design and execution of the global High Availability roadmap.
• Build & Implement HA Architectures: engineer active‑active clustering, global load balancing, and real‑time database replication.
• Establish the Resiliency Practice: create a foundational Resiliency Engineering framework and platform‑wide fault‑tolerance standards.
• Influence Engineering Teams: partner with cross‑functional squads to embed self‑healing mechanisms and automated recovery protocols.
• Bootstrap Chaos Engineering: define strategy, safe guardrails, and execute automated fault‑injection and live‑fire failover drills.
• Optimize Uptime & Manage Risks: monitor performance KPIs, mitigate bottlenecks, and ensure compliance with strict SLA requirements.

Required profile

• 8+ years of HA engineering experience across cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure) and on‑premises environments.
• Proven ability to evangelize resiliency standards and influence cross‑functional teams.
• Hands‑on expertise with real‑time data replication, database clustering, and zero‑downtime traffic failover.
• Advanced proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
• Deep knowledge of Linux internals and container orchestration using Kubernetes.
• Experience managing hybrid networking topologies, including BGP routing, DNS, Anycast, and CDNs.
• Strategic execution skills to translate uptime requirements into a technical roadmap and deliver engineering work.
