Principal Engineer - Doors & Closures

About the role

Magna is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the Doors & Closures domain. The role will define technical solutions, guide development teams and ensure high‑quality delivery for automotive door systems.

Key responsibilities

• Define and validate conceptual technical solutions for doors and closures based on stakeholder requirements.
• Conduct comparative studies of alternative solutions and recommend the optimal approach.
• Support pre‑sales activities with technical proposals and architecture guidance.
• Publish white papers, present at conferences and lead internal training on best practices.
• Drive process improvements for quality and operational excellence, including DVP&R and Six Sigma initiatives.
• Ensure design quality and conduct technical interviews up to Lead Engineer level.

Required profile

• BE or DME in a relevant engineering discipline.
• 13+ years (BE) or 15+ years (DME) of experience in automotive doors, closures or related structures.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on innovation and quality excellence.

Required skills

• Stresses & Strains analysis, direct stress, shear force, bending moment calculations.
• Design Validation Planning & Reporting (DVP&R).
• Six Sigma methodology.
• Welding, riveting, heat staking, adhesive bonding technologies.
• Vehicle manufacturing and assembly processes.
• Vehicle and component tear‑down and reporting.
