Principal Drainage Engineer

About the role

WSP India is seeking a Principal Drainage Engineer to lead the design, analysis and delivery of stormwater drainage systems for mining and major infrastructure projects. The role combines technical expertise with client interaction, ensuring high‑quality, sustainable solutions from concept through construction support.

Key responsibilities

• Support project managers to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Conduct hydrology and hydraulic analyses for roads, rail, urban developments and mining sites.
• Design stormwater networks, culverts, drains, detention systems and flood mitigation measures.
• Develop and review 2D/1D flood models using TUFLOW, HEC‑RAS and DRAINS.
• Prepare drainage reports, calculations and design documentation complying with client criteria, local authority standards and Australian Rainfall & Runoff guidelines.
• Produce technical drawings, flood maps and present design reviews to clients.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams (civil, geotechnical, environmental) and mentor junior engineers.
• Utilise digital engineering tools and advanced modelling to predict water‑related risks and support climate‑resilient infrastructure.

Required profile

• Proven experience in stormwater and drainage engineering for large‑scale projects.
• Strong ability to guide junior staff and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication skills in English and a client‑focused mindset.
• Commitment to technical excellence, safety and sustainable design.

Required skills

• Hydrology and hydraulic analysis.

• Proficiency in MS Office suite.
• Experience with Navisworks.
