Principal Direct Tax Advisor – Mumbai

About the role

We are seeking a senior tax professional to lead direct tax advisory engagements for our clients in Mumbai. The role involves providing strategic tax planning, compliance, and restructuring advice across complex domestic and cross‑border transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Advise clients on complex direct tax matters, including BEPS, GAAR, indirect transfers, tax planning and restructuring.
• Analyze business structures and transactions to identify tax‑efficient solutions.
• Coordinate with clients to gather necessary information, documents and data for assignments.
• Conduct detailed reviews of tax returns, financial information and related records.
• Prepare tax opinions, advisory memos, reports and presentations for senior review.
• Support M&A, restructuring and FEMA related advisory assignments, assessing tax implications and recommending suitable structures.
• Research tax laws, regulations and emerging issues, producing technical notes and updates.
• Assist principals and partners in business development activities, including proposal preparation and client outreach.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of Indian direct tax law, corporate tax, and FEMA regulations.
• Experience handling M&A, restructuring and cross‑border tax matters.
• Ability to analyze complex financial data and develop commercially viable tax solutions.
• Excellent communication skills for presenting findings to senior clients.
