Principal DevOps Engineer

About the role

Plane is building the infrastructure that powers the world’s work, combining human and AI agents in a single platform. As a Principal DevOps Engineer you will own the operational architecture that enables Plane to run across cloud, sovereign, customer‑managed and air‑gapped environments.

Key responsibilities

• Own and operate high‑availability, fault‑tolerant, scalable, distributed software across cloud and self‑hosted deployments.
• Design and automate infrastructure, CI/CD, GitOps, secrets management, AMIs, and one‑click deployments across AWS, DigitalOcean, Heroku, and other platforms.
• Define and strengthen infrastructure security, vulnerability management, SAST, compliance, data governance, and security standards across the organisation.
• Drive infrastructure performance and cost optimisation while improving deployment speed, reliability, and developer experience.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, platform or infrastructure engineering with production ownership.
• Hands‑on experience running AWS, Kubernetes and Docker in production and managing secrets.
• Proven track record shipping and supporting enterprise software across multiple clouds, self‑hosted and air‑gapped environments.
• Strong knowledge of networking, reverse proxies, monitoring and infrastructure security.

Required skills

• Python and Bash scripting.
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform and Ansible.
• CI/CD and GitOps using Argo CD, GitHub Actions.
• Containers and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Rancher.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, DigitalOcean, Heroku.
• Observability tools: Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, Sentry.
• Databases: PostgreSQL, Redis.
• Networking and reverse proxies: Nginx, Caddy, Kong, Traefik.
