Principal Backend Software Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a highly accomplished Principal Software Engineer (Backend) to lead a team of developers in building enterprise‑grade applications on our SaaS platform. The role combines hands‑on technical leadership with people management, requiring close collaboration with clients and senior leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee professional development, performance management and career progression of a team of at least 10 engineers.
• Define and align the technical roadmap and execution strategy with organizational goals.
• Lead hiring, interviewing and onboarding to scale the engineering team.
• Manage capacity, project assignments and resource allocation to meet business objectives.
• Design, develop and maintain complex backend applications using Java Spring and React.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to gather requirements and provide technical guidance.
• Mentor junior developers and conduct rigorous code reviews.
• Diagnose, debug and optimise applications for peak performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of software development experience, including managing an engineering team of 10+ members.
• Proven ability to work in a client‑facing environment and deliver high‑quality solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
