Performance Engineer

About the role

The Performance & Reliability team at Axi works cross‑functionally with domain PODs, SRE, and Architecture to shape performance standards, identify bottlenecks, and drive continuous optimisation across services, APIs, and client applications.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute performance, load, stress and soak tests for .NET Core micro‑services, React/React Native clients, SQL Server/Cosmos DB queries and messaging systems.
• Profile services to uncover CPU, memory, I/O, network and database contention using PerfView, dotTrace, Azure Monitor and browser dev tools.
• Recommend and validate code‑level (async, caching, batching), database‑level (query tuning, indexing, partitioning) and infrastructure‑level (resource limits, autoscaling) optimisations.
• Define and monitor performance budgets, SLOs/SLIs and capacity plans, alerting teams to regressions or approaching limits.
• Collaborate with Kubernetes/AKS teams on resource allocation, autoscaling strategies and deployment performance impacts.
• Build and maintain performance dashboards using Application Insights, Prometheus or similar tools.
• Document best‑practice guidelines, anti‑patterns and decision trees for performance engineering.

Required profile

• 4–8 years of experience in performance engineering for distributed, micro‑services‑based systems.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting mindset, able to work backwards from customer impact to root cause.
• Proven ability to collaborate with multiple global teams to validate findings and drive implementation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Required skills

• Performance testing tools: JMeter, k6, Locust or custom harnesses.
• .NET Core runtime knowledge: async patterns, TPL, thread‑pool, GC and profiling.
• .NET profiling tools: PerfView, dotTrace, Application Insights, ETW trace analysis.
• SQL Server performance tuning: query plans, indexing, execution analysis.
• Cosmos DB optimisation: throughput, partitioning, consistency trade‑offs.
• Browser and mobile performance analysis: network waterfall, rendering, JavaScript profiling.
• Kubernetes resource management: CPU/memory requests, limits, QoS classes.
• Observability platforms: Application Insights, Prometheus, Grafana.
