Payroll Accountant – Global Payroll Team

About the role

KBR is looking for a detail‑oriented Payroll Accountant to join its Global Payroll Accounting team in Chennai. You will ensure the accuracy, integrity and compliance of payroll accounting activities across a complex, multinational organization.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain payroll‑related general ledger accounts and record transactions in line with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare and post payroll‑related journal entries, including wages, taxes, benefits, accruals and other compensation items.
• Perform monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations of payroll accounts, promptly resolving any discrepancies.
• Support month‑end and year‑end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Assist internal and external audits by preparing documentation, schedules and analyses.
• Participate in payroll system implementations, upgrades, testing and data validation.
• Identify and drive process improvements, automation opportunities and control enhancements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in payroll accounting, general accounting or related finance roles within a corporate environment.
• Effective communication skills in English and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience working in a large, matrixed organization supporting multiple business units.

Required skills

• Experience with payroll and ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics, Workday Payroll, ADP or SAP.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Power BI and data analysis tools.
