Patient Care Assistant – Oncology (Full‑Time)

About the role

The Patient Care Assistant provides direct bedside support to oncology patients at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Working under the supervision of a registered nurse or Team Leader, you will assist with daily activities, monitor vital signs, and perform specified technical tasks to ensure safe and comfortable patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Measure and record temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, height, and intake‑output.
• Encourage patients to turn, cough, use incentive spirometry, and ambulate as directed.
• Assist patients with bathing, oral hygiene, dressing, bed transfers, wheelchair use, and feeding.
• Manage drainage devices, urine bags, bedpans, and emesis basins, documenting output.
• Perform phlebotomy and EKG procedures after appropriate training, including proper labeling and equipment maintenance.
• Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens as ordered.
• Maintain a safe environment by reporting equipment issues and handling linen and supplies correctly.
• Respond promptly to call lights and patient requests.

Required profile

• Ability to work under the guidance of a registered nurse or Team Leader.
• Comfortable providing hands‑on care to oncology patients.
• Willingness to complete training for phlebotomy and EKG.
