Patient Care Assistant – Neuroscience Unit

About the role

The Patient Care Assistant provides direct bedside care to patients in the Neuroscience Unit, supporting registered nurses and the care team. Working full‑time on the day shift, you will assist with daily activities, monitor vital signs, and ensure a safe, comfortable environment for patients recovering from neurological conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Measure and record temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, height, and intake‑output.
• Encourage patients to turn, cough, use incentive spirometry, and perform deep‑breathing exercises.
• Assist patients with ambulation, transfers, wheelchair use, and transportation as needed.
• Provide personal care including bed baths, oral hygiene, dressing, linen changes, and bedside cleaning.
• Manage drains, catheters, urine bags, bedpans, and emesis basins, documenting output accurately.
• Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens and perform phlebotomy and EKG when trained.
• Maintain a safe environment by reporting equipment issues and handling linen and supplies properly.
• Respond promptly to call lights and patient requests.

Required profile

• Ability to work under the supervision of a Team Leader and assist registered nurses.
• Willingness to perform hands‑on patient care and act as a sitter when required.
• Basic knowledge of infection control and patient safety protocols.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy (with appropriate training).
• EKG operation (with special training).
• Accurate vital‑sign measurement and documentation.
• Specimen collection (urine, stool, sputum).
