Patient Access Representative

About the role

The Patient Access Representative serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors at the outpatient registration areas. This role combines front‑desk customer service with accurate data entry to support proper billing and scheduling.

Key responsibilities

• Greet patients and visitors courteously and verify their information.
• Collect and enter demographic and insurance details into the computer system.
• Maintain and update patient medical records with all required forms and documents.
• Schedule, adjust, and confirm appointments, following “no‑show” procedures.
• Handle telephone inquiries, screen calls, and route them appropriately.
• Collect co‑pays, process payments, and prepare daily financial batches.
• Communicate with insurance companies and assist patients with referrals and specialist scheduling.
• Provide checkout information, schedule future visits, and keep the front desk area clean and organized.

Required profile

• Excellent interpersonal and customer‑service skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to work accurately under time constraints.
• Flexibility to work an 8‑hour shift between 7 am – 7 pm.
• Ability to collaborate as part of a Patient‑Centered Medical Home team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computer registration and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
