Part‑Time Cook – Residential Care Facility

About the role

The Cook reports to the Dietary Manager and is responsible for preparing and delivering meals to residents, guests, and staff in a residential care setting. This part‑time position supports daily nutrition services while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve all foods for residents, guests, and employees according to menus and production sheets.
• Follow proper food‑handling techniques and complete daily temperature audits for refrigeration units.
• Prepare therapeutic and specialty diets as outlined in planned menus.
• Make menu substitutions when needed and record them appropriately.
• Maintain service schedules, follow standardized recipes, and work within budget constraints.
• Comply with provincial/municipal regulations, dietary policies, and health‑safety legislation.
• Participate in special‑occasion and themed meal planning.
• Attend department meetings, in‑services, and training sessions.
• Support the Quality Improvement Program and uphold Extendicare’s Code of Conduct.

Required profile

• Current Food Handler's Certificate (mandatory).
• Red Seal Certification preferred.
• Experience in large‑quantity food preparation, ideally in healthcare or retirement settings.
• Knowledge of Provincial Food Premises Regulation and Canada’s Food Guide.
• Familiarity with special and therapeutic diets.
• Ability to lift heavy, hot items and stand for most of the shift.
• Current Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain one).
