Packaging Engineer – VAVE (Advanced Packaging)

About the role

3M is seeking an Advanced Packaging Engineer – VAVE to join its Packaging Engineering team in Bengaluru. The role focuses on creating cost‑effective, sustainable packaging solutions that improve supply‑chain efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Lead Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) projects to identify packaging cost‑saving opportunities across manufacturing, logistics, suppliers and distribution.
• Drive optimization initiatives such as unitization, pallet utilization, warehouse cube efficiency and transportation loading.
• Collaborate with Procurement, Manufacturing, Logistics, Quality, R&D, Marketing and external suppliers to deliver packaging improvements while maintaining product quality.
• Design, develop and validate innovative packaging structures, material selections and specifications.
• Investigate packaging quality issues, transportation damage and customer complaints, performing root‑cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
• Evaluate new packaging materials, technologies and sustainable alternatives to meet environmental and regulatory goals.
• Plan and execute packaging validation tests, including ISTA and internal standards.
• Manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously, ensuring on‑time and on‑budget delivery.
• Support global standardisation and share best practices across sites.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of experience in packaging engineering, development, optimisation or VAVE within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of transport and protective packaging, packaging materials and design principles.
• Proven experience leading cost‑reduction and packaging‑optimization initiatives.
