OT Cyber Security Engineer

About the role

The OT Cyber Security Engineer will design, implement and validate cybersecurity controls for industrial and manufacturing technologies used in Smith+Nephew’s medical manufacturing sites. Acting as a technical bridge between cybersecurity, engineering, IT and manufacturing teams, the role embeds security into day‑to‑day OT operations while preserving safety and production continuity.

Key responsibilities

• Translate OT cybersecurity strategy, standards and architectures into practical technical solutions.
• Perform OT threat modelling, system‑level risk assessments and security architecture reviews aligned with IEC 62443.
• Design, implement and validate network segmentation and firewall rule sets to enforce defence‑in‑depth.
• Define and maintain hardened configurations, golden images and secure build standards for OT assets.
• Support OT vulnerability management and incident response, triaging findings and assessing risk.
• Collaborate with engineering, IT and manufacturing to influence OT system design, architecture and risk decisions.
• Document security controls and provide guidance to internal teams and external vendors.

Required profile

• Strong technical background in OT/industrial cybersecurity.
• Experience working across cybersecurity, engineering, IT and manufacturing functions.
• Ability to balance security controls with operational continuity, safety and product quality.
• Proactive attitude toward emerging threats and digital transformation initiatives.
