Mechanical Engineer – Precision Semiconductor Equipment

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead system‑level mechanical architecture, design, integration and validation of precision patterning semiconductor equipment. The role focuses on translating process and product requirements into robust mechanical solutions that deliver sub‑micron accuracy, thermal stability and high reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Define system architecture, requirements, interfaces and performance budgets for precision equipment.
• Design and integrate precision motion systems, substrate handling modules, tooling, fixtures and gas delivery systems using NX and PLM tools.
• Perform thermal, structural, flow and FEA analyses to validate designs and establish verification plans.
• Lead system integration, ensure compliance with performance, safety and cost objectives, and oversee manufacturing and installation processes.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (process, controls, electrical, automation, manufacturing, quality) and drive technical reviews and risk assessments.
• Mentor engineers, manage supplier relationships for critical components, and drive root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for system‑level issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred) with 8–12+ years of experience in semiconductor or high‑precision capital equipment development.
• Proven track record delivering system‑level mechanical solutions from concept through high‑volume production.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in UG NX and Teamcenter.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, ASME standards, FMEA/FMECA and DFX methodologies.
• Experience with thermal, structural, modal, vibration and flow analysis and ability to correlate simulation with test data.
• Expertise in heat transfer, structural mechanics, precision assemblies, gas flow, pneumatic systems and materials selection.
• Familiarity with P&ID, pneumatic and electrical schematics, and SEMI standards.
