Mechanical Engineer – Cost Reduction Projects

About the role

The Mechanical Engineer will lead and execute cost‑out projects across stamping, fabrication, sheet steel, castings and forgings as part of the Direct Material Productivity (DMP) team. Working closely with Global Procurement and product divisions, you will identify and develop opportunities that drive measurable cost reductions.

Key responsibilities

• Execute enterprise‑wide strategic projects for stamping, fabrication, sheet steel, castings and forgings.
• Develop and implement VAVE, resourcing, negotiation and part‑rationalisation plans to meet cost‑out targets.
• Generate and evaluate new technical and commercial ideas to reduce product cost.
• Consolidate suppliers, improve key data and prevent part proliferation.
• Conduct data‑analysis knowledge‑nugget creation for reuse across projects.
• Participate in supplier discussions to uncover cost‑saving solutions.
• Apply DFSS methodology to identify early technical risks and ensure robust product development.
• Support new product development, VAVE and problem‑solving initiatives, fostering patents and disclosures.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 0‑1 years of experience in a technical engineering environment, preferably within the mechanical industry.
• Strong analytical mindset with ability to work on commodity spend data.
• Excellent collaboration skills with global procurement and product teams.
