Manager / Deputy Manager – Highway Design Engineer

About the role

Assystem is seeking an experienced Highway Design Engineer to lead design teams for highways, expressways, and urban roads in Chennai. The role involves overseeing geometry design, detailed project reporting, and coordination with multidisciplinary stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare horizontal and vertical alignment designs, cross‑sections, super‑elevation, widening, and junction layouts in compliance with Indian Roads Congress (IRC) standards and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways guidelines.
• Lead the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPR), conduct feasibility and alignment studies, and review survey data including topographic, traffic, and geotechnical reports.
• Coordinate design integration with bridge, drainage, traffic, pavement, and utility engineers to ensure seamless project execution.
• Review and quality‑control drawings, reports, and calculations prepared by junior engineers, ensuring adherence to safety requirements and project specifications.
• Support tender and bid processes by contributing technical proposals, design inputs, and bid documentation.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering (mandatory); M.Tech in Transportation Engineering preferred.
• 10‑15 years of experience in highway geometry design, including leadership of junior engineers and design reviewers.
• Proven ability to guide design methodology, approve drawings, and manage multidisciplinary coordination.

Required skills

• Highway geometric design, interchanges & junction design, corridor modeling.
• Software: AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, MX Road, AutoCAD.
• Quantity estimation, BOQ preparation, drainage and grading design, basic pavement design.
• Strong knowledge of IRC codes, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways specifications, and highway safety standards.
• Proficiency with Excel and design calculation tools.
