Linux System Administrator

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Linux System Administrator to join the IT team at IIIT Hyderabad. The role involves installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux‑based servers while supporting software deployment, security, and issue resolution in a collaborative, on‑site environment.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, optimize and troubleshoot Linux server environments (Ubuntu, RHEL).
• Deploy and manage open‑source and proprietary applications.
• Monitor system performance, security, and availability; perform upgrades, patching and kernel updates.
• Provide user support for access, resource issues and manage accounts, permissions and groups.
• Document procedures, workflows and best practices in internal knowledge bases.
• Collaborate with vendors on hardware and software concerns.
• Automate routine tasks using Bash or Python scripts and tools such as Ansible or XCAT.
• Manage storage solutions including LVM, RAID and file systems, and ensure server hardening and vulnerability remediation.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of hands‑on Linux system administration experience.
• Master’s degree in Mathematics, Science, Computer Science/Applications or Bachelor’s in Engineering.
• Relevant certifications (CompTIA Linux+, LPIC‑1/LPIC‑2, RHCSA) are highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of networking, virtualization (KVM), backup/recovery and system monitoring.
