About the role

Ethos is seeking an experienced Life Underwriter to join its Bangalore team. You will evaluate life insurance applications, balancing risk and customer needs while contributing to a fast‑growing insurtech platform.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and apply underwriting policies, guidelines, and procedures.
• Assess medical history, occupational hazards, and financial information to decide whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk.
• Summarize Attending Physician Statements and Electronic Health Records to support decisions.
• Communicate underwriting outcomes clearly in writing and verbally.
• Champion process improvements while maintaining mortality expectations.
• Gather necessary information efficiently and work independently with minimal direction.
• Navigate ambiguous cases with confidence.

Required profile

• 3‑5+ years of medical life/health underwriting experience (U.S. experience a plus).
• Proven ability to assess and summarize APS and EHR documents.
• Comprehensive knowledge of risk selection across medical, non‑medical, and financial dimensions.
• Strong critical‑thinking and independent problem‑solving capabilities.
• Experience underwriting both term and permanent life insurance products.
• Professional designations such as LOMA, ALMI, FMLI, ALU, or FALU are preferred.
