Legal Associate

About the role

As a Legal Associate at GIVA, you will support daily legal and compliance operations, working closely with the Senior Legal Manager and cross‑functional teams across retail, e‑commerce, marketing, supply chain and HR. The role involves hands‑on contract management, intellectual property protection, regulatory compliance and dispute resolution for a fast‑growing jewellery brand.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts—including lease agreements, vendor/supplier contracts, NDAs, SLA, logistics and marketing/influencer agreements—and maintain a centralized contract repository with renewal and obligation tracking.
• Assist with trademark filings, copyright protection and design registrations; monitor online platforms and issue takedown notices against counterfeit or infringing content.
• Ensure compliance with consumer protection laws, E‑Commerce Rules, Legal Metrology regulations and BIS Hallmarking; support obtaining and renewing statutory registrations and local licences for retail outlets nationwide.
• Align customer policies such as returns, exchanges and lifetime buy‑back with current consumer rights frameworks.
• Coordinate with external counsel on customer disputes, consumer forum claims and regulatory inquiries; prepare legal notices, affidavits and maintain internal litigation status trackers.
• Support internal legal audits, draft policies (data privacy, employee handbooks) and statutory reporting; serve as the first point of contact for day‑to‑day legal queries from business units.

Required profile

• LL.B. or integrated LL.B. (5‑year) from a recognized university or law school.
• 2–4 years of experience in an in‑house corporate legal team (D2C, retail, e‑commerce or FMCG) or at a reputable law firm.
• Strong drafting abilities and solid knowledge of IP law, contract law, Consumer Protection Act and retail licensing requirements.
• High attention to detail, analytical mindset and proactive problem‑solving in a dynamic start‑up environment.
