Legal Affairs Specialist – India

About the role

International Justice Mission (IJM) is seeking a Legal Affairs Specialist to support its expanding operations in India. The role combines direct legal service delivery with the development of efficient legal processes, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation across all program locations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and analyse changes in Indian employment, data‑privacy and related laws, providing strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
• Prepare actionable legal options, timelines and cost‑benefit assessments for cross‑functional projects.
• Deliver timely, high‑quality legal advice to internal customers, including Regional Directors of Security & Risks and Business Solutions.
• Develop and manage a roster of external counsel across multiple jurisdictions, securing specialist and pro‑bono services as needed.
• Maintain active participation in professional legal associations and ensure departmental access to relevant memberships.
• Travel nationally to support IJM program sites and liaise with regional counsel and the Global Legal Governance, Risk & Compliance team.

Required profile

• Qualified legal professional with experience in Indian employment and data‑privacy law.
• Demonstrated ability to provide pragmatic, compliance‑focused solutions in a fast‑moving environment.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, capable of interfacing with senior leaders and external partners.
• Willingness to travel across India and work on‑site at various program locations.
