Lead Software Engineer (Java)

About the role

This role operates within a globally distributed delivery model, partnering closely with onshore teams to deliver and maintain high‑availability, mission‑critical systems. The successful candidate will help evolve and stabilize key payment platforms in a scaled Agile (SAFe) environment.

Key responsibilities

• Agile Delivery (SAFe Framework): contribute to sprint planning, execution and continuous improvement within a Scrum team.
• Distributed Team Collaboration: work with onshore engineering teams to deliver features, resolve defects and ensure seamless integration.
• Application Development & Maintenance: design, develop and maintain solutions across a multi‑technology stack.
• Production Support & Reliability: support critical live systems, ensuring performance, resilience and compliance with enterprise standards.
• Continuous Improvement: drive engineering best practices, automation and process enhancements.

Required profile

• Proven experience with Java‑based backend development and relational databases (Oracle).
• Experience with Spring‑Boot framework.
• Knowledge of TDD and BDD testing frameworks.
• Working knowledge of frontend technologies such as Angular and JavaScript.
• Familiarity with SQL scripting and data handling.
• Experience with REST, messaging and event‑driven solutions.
• Exposure to DevOps tooling.
• Understanding of security mechanisms.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, preferably SAFe.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ownership mindset.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across distributed teams.
