Lead Software Engineer – Java & AI Tools

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a talented Lead Software Development Engineer to join the Mastercard Foundry Research and Development team in Pune. In this role you will be part of a highly agile team building exciting and innovative products delivered at scale to global markets.

Key responsibilities

• Develop high‑performance Java‑based solutions.
• Analyse, design, and develop software solutions.
• Contribute to requirements for new applications and customisations while adhering to standards.
• Ensure quality of application codebases and alignment with development standards.
• Design highly complex applications, interfaces and integrations.
• Integrate at an enterprise level using third‑party middleware or messaging products.
• Perform performance engineering of the enterprise software architecture.
• Conduct software development, code reviews and day‑to‑day support duties.
• Deliver group‑wide and external public speaking and communications conveying domain‑level directions.
• Research and evaluate tools to support domain‑specific needs.

Required skills

• Java JDK 17 or greater
• Tomcat, Spring, Spring Boot
• Shell scripting and JSON
• Docker and Kubernetes (or other container orchestration)
• JUnit or other automated unit‑testing frameworks
• CI/CD principles and tools such as Jenkins, Gradle, Maven
• Source control management in multi‑developer environments
• AI‑assisted tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex)
• Configurable AI workflows (AGENTS.md, custom skills, sub‑agents, prompt patterns)
• Agentic workflow knowledge (multi‑agent orchestration, LLM evaluation, guardrails, responsible AI)
• Integration of AI workflows into Git‑based development, automated quality gates, observability and cloud‑native deployment
• Angular (optional UI framework)
