Lead Engineer - EHV Cables

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Lead Engineer for Extra‑High‑Voltage (EHV) cable projects within its Transmission & Distribution team in India. The role involves leading design, analysis and delivery of full‑lifecycle cable engineering packages for large grid substations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and modify electrical and electronic systems, focusing on HV plant, EHV grid substations and cable infrastructure.
• Review and optimise complex HVAC and HVDC cable designs, including route development, burial risk assessments and thermal, electromagnetic and mechanical calculations.
• Conduct cable rating studies such as ampacity, short‑circuit forces, thermal stability and EMI analysis.
• Coordinate cable pulling, jointing, cleating and installation feasibility studies.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, substation and OHL teams to deliver fully integrated solutions.

Required profile

• 10+ years of engineering experience, preferably leading large design teams on grid substation projects.
• Proven experience in HV plant design for large EHV grid substations and full‑lifecycle cable engineering.
• Background working with grid utilities (e.g., National Grid, Transgrid, Powergrid) is highly desirable.
• Chartership or Fellowship with IET (or equivalent) and strong English communication skills.
