Lab Technician – Metallurgy

About the role

We are seeking a Lab Technician specialized in metallurgy to support our research and development laboratory. The role involves preparing metallurgical samples, conducting various tests, and maintaining laboratory documentation in a fast‑paced, sustainability‑focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare metallurgical samples and perform micro‑ and macro‑etching.
• Capture sample images using DSLR cameras and stereo zoom microscopy.
• Conduct hardness testing, weld penetration and qualification testing.
• Audit micro‑analysis results under supervision.
• Maintain lab registers and inventory of consumables and chemicals in Excel.
• Coordinate material inward/outward activities and support Kaizen improvements.
• Assist 5S implementation and equipment AMC activities.
• Provide support to the chemistry/polymer group when required.

Required profile

• Diploma in Metallurgy or equivalent.
• 2–3 years of experience in R&D laboratory set‑up.
• Strong safety culture and ability to work on‑site five days a week.

Required skills

• Metallographic sample preparation and etching (micro & macro).
• Microscopy (stereo zoom) and photographic documentation.
• Hardness and weld penetration testing.
• SEM/EDS support for material characterization.
• Inventory management of consumables and chemicals.
• Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint for data analysis and reporting.
• Knowledge of 5S methodology and equipment AMC.
