HVDC/VSC System Expert – Substation

About the role

Provide specialist technical oversight for ±500 kV VSC‑HVDC terminal stations, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review HVDC system architecture, design criteria, technical specifications and interface requirements across the VSC‑HVDC scheme.
• Assess OEM design documentation for converters, transformer, valves, DC and AC equipment and auxiliary systems.
• Evaluate control, protection, monitoring systems and sequence‑of‑events functionality.
• Participate in design reviews, technical audits, risk assessments and commissioning activities.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 years of experience in HVDC, FACTS, power transmission or related large‑scale power infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience with VSC‑HVDC systems, design review, installation oversight, testing and commissioning.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; professional accreditation advantageous.

Required skills

• HVDC and VSC‑HVDC system design and integration.
• Converter technology, converter transformers, HVDC valves, AC/DC filters, harmonic filters, reactive power compensation.
• Control and protection systems, SCADA, telecommunications, grid integration.
• Power system studies: load flow, short‑circuit, harmonic, insulation coordination, overvoltage, EMI, dynamic performance.
• Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning procedures.
