Highway Design Engineer (Road & Transportation)

About the role

Assystem is seeking a Highway Design Engineer to join its Chennai office, focusing on the design of highways, expressways and urban roads. You will work on geometry design, alignment studies and detailed project reporting while ensuring compliance with Indian standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare horizontal and vertical alignment designs, cross‑sections, super‑elevation, widening and junction layouts for highways and urban roads.
• Lead the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPR), conduct feasibility and alignment studies, and review survey data including topographic, traffic and geotechnical reports.
• Coordinate with bridge, drainage, traffic, pavement and utility engineers to integrate highway alignment with related structures.
• Use design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer and MX Road for corridor modeling and drawing production.
• Review and quality‑check drawings, calculations and reports to ensure compliance with IRC standards, safety requirements and project specifications.
• Support tender and bid activities by preparing technical proposals, bid documents and design inputs during pre‑bid stages.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering (mandatory); M.Tech in Transportation Engineering is preferred.
• 3‑5 years of experience in highway geometric design, alignment studies and design coordination.

Required skills

• Highway geometric design, interchanges and junction design, corridor modeling.
• Quantity estimation, BOQ preparation, drainage and grading design.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, MX Road and Excel for design calculations.
• Knowledge of Indian Roads Congress (IRC) codes, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways specifications and highway safety standards.
