Healthcare Support Worker – Band 2

About the role

The NHS Scotland team is looking for compassionate Healthcare Support Workers (Band 2) to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred care. You will work alongside nurses and a multidisciplinary team to support patients’ daily needs and promote their wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care, including washing, dressing and personal hygiene.
• Assist patients with nutrition and hydration intake.
• Deliver and maintain high standards of oral care.
• Accurately document all care provided.
• Perform supervised clinical tasks such as catheter care and care of stomas and urostomies.
• Collaborate closely with the team, ensuring clear communication.

Required profile

• Demonstrates caring and compassionate attitudes.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
• Understanding of patient dignity, confidentiality and safeguarding.
• Flexibility to work shifts, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
• Previous care experience is valued but not essential; training will be provided.

Required skills

• Catheter care (under supervision).
• Stoma and urostomy care.
• Oral care techniques.
• Accurate patient documentation.
