Hardware Engineer

About the role

The Hardware Engineer will join Cisco's Hardware Platform Group, focusing on FPGA development for both data‑path and control‑path applications. You will work on the full design flow, from specification through RTL coding, synthesis, timing closure, and board‑level validation, collaborating with global teams in the US and Italy.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement FPGA architectures, including detailed specifications and test plans.
• Develop block‑level RTL in Verilog, VHDL or SystemVerilog and achieve timing closure using vendor tools.
• Perform synthesis, generate bitstreams, and validate designs on hardware.
• Participate in subsystem bring‑up, integration, and unit‑test validation with hardware, software, diagnostics and signal‑integrity groups.
• Contribute to process improvements and design‑flow adoption within the team.

Required profile

• 10‑12 years of FPGA design experience.
• BTech/MTech in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• Strong communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Experience with Xilinx, Altera (Intel) and Microsemi FPGAs.
• Proficiency in Verilog, VHDL and SystemVerilog.
• Hands‑on use of Vivado, Quartus and Libero design tools.
• Knowledge of Ethernet‑based protocols, PCIe, AXI, memory controllers, OTN, I2C, SPI, UART.
• Familiarity with UVM or VMM simulation environments.
• Basic Unix scripting and tool automation.
