Field Engineer (Electrical) – 400/220/132 kV Substation

About the role

SMEC India is looking for a qualified Field Engineer (Electrical) to support the Independent Engineer services on the MSTU Saswad 400/220/132 kV AIS Substation project. You will work on‑site, supervising construction, ensuring quality, and coordinating with the client, contractor and other stakeholders to keep the project on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise day‑to‑day electrical construction activities at the substation site.
• Monitor progress against approved drawings, specifications and contract requirements.
• Inspect materials, equipment and workmanship for compliance with quality and safety standards.
• Witness testing and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment.
• Maintain site records, inspection reports and progress documentation.
• Coordinate technical matters with the Independent Engineer, client, contractor and other parties.
• Identify construction issues and support timely resolution to avoid delays.
• Ensure adherence to electrical codes, statutory regulations and HSE requirements.
• Assist in preparing progress reports, site observations and technical documentation.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
• 3–5 years of experience in construction supervision or execution of EHV/HV substations, transmission or power infrastructure projects.
• Experience with AIS/GIS substation projects is preferred.
• Knowledge of testing and commissioning activities is desirable.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Knowledge of electrical construction practices and quality standards.
• Familiarity with Indian Standards and electrical safety regulations.
