Field Counsellor – Lay Alcohol Intervention

About the role
Good Business Lab, together with UC Berkeley researchers, is piloting a lay‑counsellor delivered psychological intervention for harmful alcohol use in factory settings. You will be trained to deliver the Counselling for Alcohol Problems (CAP) programme to enrolled workers and support their well‑being while contributing to business outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver one‑on‑one CAP sessions following the treatment manual.
- Build rapport with participants, using non‑judgemental communication techniques.
- Schedule and confirm session times, coordinating with the field team.
- Attend individual and group supervision with the Clinical Associate and act on feedback.
- Maintain strict participant confidentiality at all times.
- Safeguard issued equipment such as tablets, recording devices and chargers.
- Participate in additional trainings, refreshers and study team meetings.
- Conduct day‑to‑day surveys in stakeholder units and hostels.
- Perform other related tasks as required by the project.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field.
- Fluent communication in Hindi and Kannada; basic English reading and writing.
- Comfort discussing alcohol use, family conflict and emotional difficulty without judgment.
- Genuine interest in learning and delivering a structured counselling method.
- Ability to keep accurate records and submit them on time.
- Availability for a five‑day intensive training in Goa and for 8‑9 hour workdays in Bengaluru.
- Willingness to travel within Karnataka during the engagement.
- Detail‑oriented with good oral and written communication skills.
What we offer
- Post‑training compensation of INR 1000 per day.
- Training period compensation of INR 800 per day, with training expenses covered.
