Fashion Designer – Contemporary Indian Womenswear

About the role

RA Studio is seeking a Fashion Designer to join its Mumbai studio and help shape contemporary Indian womenswear. The role is centred on product design, taking ideas from research through to a finished collection.

Key responsibilities

• Research trends, develop mood‑boards, colour stories and silhouette concepts.
• Create original garment sketches, technical drawings and design specifications.
• Explore and select fabrics, hand‑looms, prints, embroidery, trims and surface techniques.
• Collaborate with pattern masters, tailors, sampling teams and production partners to turn designs into samples.
• Participate in fittings, refine proportion, construction, comfort and fit.
• Balance creativity with wearability, production feasibility and commercial goals.
• Leverage AI‑assisted tools to accelerate research, visualisation and iteration.

Required profile

• 2–4 years of professional experience in womenswear, preferably with a premium or contemporary label.
• Formal education in Fashion, Textile or Apparel Design (NID, NIFT or equivalent) is preferred.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating original thinking, textile sensibility and finished garments.
• Good understanding of fabrics, garment construction, fit, proportions and the sampling process.
• Experience taking designs through development, sampling, fitting and finalisation.
• Curiosity about emerging design tools and willingness to experiment.
