Engineer Gearbox Housing

About the role

Magna Powertrain is seeking an Engineer specialized in gearbox housing design to create concept and detailed designs for housings, covers, brackets and related components across multiple gearbox variants. You will work on both prototype and serial production parts, supporting hybrid/e‑drive projects and ensuring compliance with functional and manufacturing requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop concept designs and detailed 3D models for gearbox housings, plastic deflectors, NVH covers, inverter boxes and related fasteners.
• Produce technical drawings and manufacturing specifications, including tolerance calculations.
• Interpret casting simulations and CAE results to optimise part geometry and manufacturability.
• Coordinate with suppliers and internal project teams, participating in meetings, change management, FMEA and interface definition.
• Support prototype builds, conduct testing (e.g., lubrication tests) and analyse results with test engineers.

Required profile

• University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or a related field.
• Several years of experience with gearbox components, housings, plastic and steel parts.
• Proactive, solution‑oriented mindset with strong resilience and teamwork skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Professional level in CATIA.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Experience with CAE analysis and casting simulation.
• Ability to perform tolerance calculations and create detailed technical drawings.
• Knowledge of FMEA, change‑management tools, and project documentation.
• Understanding of gearbox systems, inverters, cooling systems, hydraulics and electrification of automotive gearboxes.
• Familiarity with casting manufacturing processes.
