Emergency Response Assistant

About the role

PETA India is seeking an Emergency Response Assistant to support its emergency response team in handling urgent animal emergencies, rescues, and cruelty cases across India. The role works on a roster‑based schedule, covering mornings, evenings, nights and weekends, and involves both field and office activities.

Key responsibilities

• Respond promptly to emergency and cruelty‑case calls and e‑mails.
• Prepare and send form letters to address restrictions imposed on animal feeders and caretakers.
• Arrange timely, hands‑on assistance for animals in need in Mumbai and Delhi, following PETA’s SOPs.
• Coordinate with animal‑protection organisations, volunteers, activists, government bodies and officials for emergency rescues.
• File police complaints, FIRs and visit relevant agencies or case sites as required.
• Inform the public about ways to help animals and maintain a contact database.
• Maintain thorough records of all emergency and cruelty‑case communications.
• Participate in training on animal handling, first aid and related emergency response skills.
• Represent PETA India professionally to various stakeholders.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Minimum bachelor’s degree from a recognised institution.
• Voluntary or other experience handling animal emergencies or cruelty cases (a plus).
• Fluency in Hindi and English; knowledge of other Indian languages is a plus.
• Exceptional organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Passion for ending animal cruelty and a compassionate, self‑driven character.
• Adherence to a vegan lifestyle and willingness to travel independently.
