Director of Software Engineering – Email Security (Bangalore)

About the role

You will lead engineering for Cisco's industry‑leading Email Threat Defense platform, driving generative AI improvements across the software development lifecycle and adding customer‑facing AI/LLM functionality to existing threat detection products. The role also includes responsibilities for observability and securing AI agents.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver innovative, differentiated software solutions in threat detection, agentic AI security, and product security.
• Partner with Product Management, Design, and other Engineering Directors to set technical vision and roadmap.
• Guide engineering teams in defining short‑, medium‑, and long‑term goals to achieve that vision.
• Lead recruiting strategy, work with recruiters, and build a diverse, inclusive team.
• Mentor and coach managers and senior engineers, addressing both technical and non‑technical challenges.
• Develop career plans for team members and promote recognition of achievements.
• Provide senior leadership counsel and support engineering‑wide initiatives such as offsites, training, and process evolution.

Required profile

• At least 10 years of software engineering experience building cloud‑based and on‑prem applications.
• Minimum 7 years leading multiple high‑performing engineering teams, including managing through managers and change.
• Proven collaboration with Design, Data Science, Security, SRE, or Product Management to deliver secure, usable software.
• Demonstrated track record of leading AI‑driven changes in the SDLC and driving AI adoption and product integration.
• Experience leading teams focused on observability and monitoring.
