DevOps Engineer (Cloud & On-Prem)

About the role

PKWARE is seeking a hands‑on DevOps Engineer to design, build, and operate infrastructure across public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP) and on‑premises VMware environments. The role is part of a distributed team, requiring strong asynchronous communication and self‑direction.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and extend existing infrastructure following established patterns.
• Develop and update infrastructure‑as‑code and CI/CD pipelines using Terraform and Ansible.
• Provision and manage resources on AWS, Azure, GCP and VMware vCenter.
• Monitor alerts, triage incidents, and apply fixes while escalating when needed.
• Implement security controls, participate in reviews and remediation.
• Support teammates with resource deployments, troubleshooting, and pipeline upkeep.
• Create tooling to simplify infrastructure management for the team.
• Produce clear documentation and ticket updates for knowledge transfer.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 2–6 years of relevant experience in cloud and on‑prem infrastructure.
• Ability to own tasks, drive them to completion and work effectively across time zones.
• Strong written communication and documentation skills.

Required skills

• Terraform and Ansible for infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and willingness to work across all three.
• VMware vCenter administration.
• CI/CD pipeline concepts and maintenance.
• AWS CloudFormation and AWS Control Tower.
• Kerberos authentication configuration and troubleshooting.
• Big data platforms such as Hadoop or Cloudera Data Platform.
• Jira for work tracking.
• Secrets management, IAM, and cloud security hardening.
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) or willingness to learn.
