Design Engineer – Traction Gear Box

About the role

Siemens Mobility is seeking a Design Engineer to develop and support traction gear box systems for railway applications such as locomotives, EMUs and metros. The role sits within the mechanical engineering team and contributes to the full product lifecycle, from concept through to validation and product introduction.

Key responsibilities

• Design mechanical components and assemblies for traction gear boxes, ensuring compliance with railway shock, vibration, temperature and durability requirements.
• Create and maintain 3D models, manufacturing and assembly drawings, calculations and technical documentation.
• Perform gear design checks, bearing selection, shaft and housing assessments, and tolerance stack‑up analyses.
• Select appropriate materials, manufacturing processes and surface treatments to achieve high reliability.
• Support prototype build, first‑article inspection, supplier development, validation testing and issue resolution.
• Collaborate with electrical, vehicle integration, manufacturing, quality, procurement and service teams.
• Participate in design reviews, cost optimisation, customer discussions and engineering change implementation.

Required profile

• Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience designing components for railway or heavy‑duty applications.
• Ability to work in cross‑functional teams and manage technical documentation.
