Data Engineering Manager

About the role

We are looking for a senior leader to head the Data Engineering capability within Chalhoub Group’s Capability Hub in Bangalore. The role will drive the design, delivery and operation of a reliable cloud data platform that powers analytics across the luxury retail business.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the end‑to‑end data platform on Google Cloud (BigQuery), including storage, compute and access layers.
• Design, build and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Python, Apache Airflow, dbt and Airbyte for batch and streaming ingestion.
• Own DataOps processes: pipeline monitoring, job orchestration, incident resolution and uptime assurance.
• Develop semantic layers and dashboards with Looker (LookML) and Power BI to deliver actionable business intelligence.
• Implement automated data testing, validation, anomaly detection and cleansing to ensure data quality.
• Provide engineering leadership, mentorship and continuous improvement for the data engineering team.
• Utilise Claude Code for AI‑assisted development to accelerate pipeline and query creation.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of data engineering experience, including leadership or mentoring responsibilities.
• Strong expertise in Google BigQuery, GCP data warehousing and access control.
• Hands‑on experience with Python‑based ETL/ELT, Apache Airflow, dbt, Airbyte and streaming pipelines.
• Proficiency in BI tools (Looker, LookML, Power BI) and SQL‑driven reporting.
• Experience implementing data quality frameworks, automated testing and anomaly detection.
• Familiarity with AI‑assisted coding tools such as Claude Code.
