Data Analytics Analyst – Financial Crime Risk

About the role

Join American Express' International Operational Excellence team as a Data Analytics Analyst focused on Financial Crime Risk. You will help shape anti‑money‑laundering (AML) strategies by turning large data sets into actionable insights that protect the business and its customers.

Key responsibilities

• Perform analytics for multiple Financial Crime Risk workstreams using SQL and Python.
• Work with structured and unstructured data to uncover trends and gaps.
• Identify data and process deficiencies, partner with stakeholders to remediate, and manage issues across Amex systems.
• Monitor KYC/KYB health of cardmember and legal entity portfolios by building dashboards in Tableau or Power BI.
• Define data‑driven strategies to optimise AML risk and improve customer experience.
• Collaborate with Compliance, Technology, and PMO teams to align on regulatory requirements and risk mitigation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Finance, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering) – preferred.
• 0‑2 years of relevant experience in data analytics or financial crime.
• Proactive, strong analytical mindset with the ability to solve unstructured problems.
• Excellent critical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
