Crew Commander – Airport Fire & Rescue

About the role

The Crew Commander leads and participates in airport fire‑fighting, rescue and crash fire tender (CFT) operations. You will ensure rapid response to incidents, maintain equipment readiness, and train crew members to the highest safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Respond promptly to accidents or incidents with fire appliances and initiate firefighting and rescue actions in coordination with the Incident Commander.
• Oversee preventive and breakdown maintenance of ARFF vehicles and equipment, ensuring serviceability.
• Plan and conduct practical training and physical‑fitness sessions for the crew, maintaining training records and performance ratings.
• Perform statutory performance tests on crash fire tenders, domestic fire tenders and command‑control posts.
• Maintain accurate vehicle log books, refuelling records, training registers and hand‑over documents.
• Test ARFF watch‑tower equipment and communications systems, and monitor aircraft movements in the maneuvering area.
• Act as the team leader during aircraft accidents until the Sub‑Commander or State Fire Service arrives.
• Liaise with Air Traffic Control, airport operations centres, security, and disaster‑response agencies for coordinated emergency management.

Required profile

• Demonstrated leadership and ability to make decisions under pressure.
• Strong knowledge of airport emergency procedures and ARFF operations.
• Excellent physical fitness and commitment to crew safety.
