Controller – Emerging Lead (Balance Sheet Substantiation)

About the role

The Emerging Lead for Balance Sheet Substantiation will join State Street Global Accounting Operations (GAO) and be responsible for the end‑to‑end reconciliation and substantiation of balance‑sheet items across the Hub. Reporting to the Balance Sheet Substantiation AVP, the role partners with Global Process Owners, technology teams and external vendors to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Own all operational reconciliation and substantiation processes within the Balance Sheet Substantiation team.
• Ensure timeliness, quality and compliance of outputs, avoiding back‑log for donor entities and on‑shore service teams.
• Maintain and monitor reconciliation controls in line with the Balance Sheet Reconciliation Policy.
• Identify risks, remediate process deficiencies and develop additional preventive controls.
• Gather requirements, perform gap analysis, support testing and facilitate seamless BAU transitions.
• Collaborate with IT, vendors and project teams to improve reconciliation processes and drive automation.
• Document and update procedures according to BSS Policy and meet SLA and Balanced Scorecard targets.
• Escalate issues promptly to prevent adverse impact on delivery.
• Partner with GPO, FRIBS and technology to re‑engineer processes, implement automation and manage change.

Required profile

• Accountable for operational balance‑sheet substantiation activities.
• Experience partnering with internal finance, technology and vendor teams.
• Ability to identify risks, propose controls and drive continuous improvement.
• Strong understanding of accounting processes, reconciliation policies and SLA management.
