Control & Protection Application Engineer

About the role

The Control & Protection Application Engineer will design, develop and verify control and protection solutions for high‑voltage DC (HVDC) systems. Working under the guidance of lead engineers, you will contribute to the creation of robust strategies that meet customer specifications and ensure system reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Execute control design, protection design and verification work packages on schedule and within budget.
• Prepare specifications, design documents and test plans for control, protection and sequencing strategies.
• Perform power‑system network conversion and modelling using PSSE/PSCAD and PSSE/RSCAD.
• Model HVDC plants in MATLAB, RSCAD, PSCAD and verify their performance.
• Develop algorithms and state‑machine models in MATLAB Simulink and convert them to suitable time‑domain library models.
• Improve existing algorithms for power‑fault recovery and instability mitigation during DPS studies.
• Support the development of new control, protection and start‑up/shut‑down sequencing strategies.
• Collaborate with R&D teams to enhance products and tools, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Engineering degree (or equivalent) covering power systems and power electronics.
• Strong sense of urgency with the ability to identify and manage technical risks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experienced in preparing technical reports and responding to client queries.
• Ability to understand, translate and communicate customer requirements.
• Capable of meeting deadlines under pressure while maintaining safety, quality and engineering integrity.
