Contract Copyeditor – Medicine & Life Sciences

About the role

Cactus Communications is seeking experienced copyeditors to work remotely on medical and life‑science manuscripts. This is a contractual position with regular workload, allowing you to maintain a predictable schedule while contributing to high‑quality scientific publications.

Key responsibilities

• Edit academic and scientific manuscripts for grammar, punctuation, clarity, conciseness, logical flow, and overall readability while preserving the author’s intended meaning.
• Ensure language meets global academic standards and conforms to formal scientific writing conventions.
• Apply journal‑specific style requirements, including structure, formatting, referencing, abbreviations, and units of measure.
• Adapt manuscripts to house style guides or individual journal guidelines, maintaining consistency across text, tables, figures, and supplementary material.
• Cross‑check metadata such as in‑text citations, reference lists, author affiliations, and figure/table callouts using appropriate software tools.

Required profile

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Life Sciences, or a related field.
• Prior experience in any form of editing, preferably academic or scientific.
• Strong command of standard scientific English.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Word, especially Track Changes and styling options.
• Familiarity with the AMA style guide (preferred).
