Job description

About the role

Siemens Mobility is seeking a Component Engineer specialized in mechanical engineering to develop and optimise mechanical housings for traction and auxiliary converters used in locomotives, EMUs and metros. You will work on both onboard and external applications, ensuring robust, efficient and standards‑compliant designs.

Key responsibilities

  • Design mechanical housings for traction and auxiliary converters (onboard, underslung, roof‑mounted).
  • Develop welded, riveted and glued sheet‑metal constructions, as well as air‑cooled and water‑cooled modules.
  • Create air‑ducts, water circuits, heatsinks, cooling plates, moulded components, low‑inductive busbars and insulating parts.
  • Apply IEC, EN and IS standards for design validation, testing and product safety.
  • Perform computational analyses using FEA and CFD.
  • Interpret electrical circuit diagrams and integrate mechanical and electrical components in 3D models.
  • Collaborate with electrical and site teams to ensure system integration.
  • Prepare detailed design documentation, NOMs and manufacturing drawings.
  • Support prototype development, testing and design reviews, and engage with customers on technical topics.

Required profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in mechanical design of traction or auxiliary converters.
  • Proficiency with Siemens NX, Teamcenter, HyperMesh, ANSYS/NX Nastran, AutoCAD and SAP.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, DTC, DFM, weld design, GD&T and tolerance analysis.
  • Ability to use problem‑solving tools such as A3, 8D and fishbone analysis.

Required skills

  • Mechanical design of sheet‑metal constructions (welded, riveted, glued).
  • Air‑cooled and water‑cooled technology design.
  • Air‑duct and water‑circuit engineering.
  • Heatsink, cooling plate, moulded component, low‑inductive busbar and insulating part design.
  • IEC, EN and IS standards compliance.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • Electrical circuit diagram interpretation and 3D integration.
  • Manufacturing processes, DTC, DFM, weld design, GD&T, tolerance analysis.
  • Problem‑solving methodologies (A3, 8D, fishbone).
  • Software: Siemens NX, Teamcenter, HyperMesh, ANSYS, NX Nastran, AutoCAD, SAP.
