Communications and Media Relations Officer

About the role

The Communications and Media Relations Officer will lead the media outreach strategy for the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, supporting corporate communications, social media, and issues management across a diverse portfolio of parks, historic sites, and tourism initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage the media relations function and outreach strategy for all SLPC properties.
• Provide communication advisory services for internal and external audiences.
• Research, write, and edit a variety of communication products, including press releases and digital content.
• Monitor daily news and social media, summarising relevant insights for senior leadership.
• Prepare spokespersons and act as the primary contact with external media outlets.
• Organise special media events, familiarisation tours, and partnerships with travel writers, bloggers, and influencers.
• Promote SLPC’s equity, diversity, and inclusion principles in all interactions.

Required profile

• Mandatory oral and written proficiency in English.
• Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence or equivalent.
• Knowledge of communication planning, theory, and methods across print, broadcast, social, and electronic media.
• Familiarity with ministry policies and public sector communications.
